How to use Grip mask

Grip mask is an easy, cheap, and time saving alternative to hand masking parts for graphics such as flames or tear a ways.

1. We use a large 3.0 tip gun to spray the grip mask, although you can thin the mask with water and spray it out of a smaller tip gun if you prefer. We suggest a designated gun be used for the mask as it generally gets into the gun and water must be used to clean the gun after each use.

2. We find that masking the bottom of each part to be sprayed helps keep the unwanted areas free of excess mask and makes the final step of peeling the mask much easier.

3. All parts are sprayed with a thin even coat and left to either air dry or force dried for 15 minutes in between each coat. You can apply each following coat as soon as you see spots where the mask is beginning to dry, do not wait until the part is completely dried before applying the next coat. We apply three coats total and then force dry everything for one hour at 160 degrees.

4. Once the spray mask is dry you can draw out your design using a stabillo pencil.

5. The spray mask can be cut using a sharp exacto knife or swivel blade knife. Be careful not to cut too deep into the paintwork below, this may take a little practice.

6. Once the mask is cut you can peel out the desired areas and the graphic color can then be sprayed on.

7. Once the paint has dried you can now either re-spray mask the parts following steps 1-6 again for the next level of graphics or peel the entire part. Be sure to clean the edges using tape or a fingernail where the mask was cut as paint tends to build up there.

8. Now the parts are ready to be cleared!
